New York Guard Soldiers... Protecting the People of the State of New York |
| During this time of national vigilance precipitated by the terrorist attack on "World Trade Center America," the military forces of the State of New York were activated. While on duty at the Seventh Regiment Armory, 643 Park Avenue NYC -- Headquarters of the 88th Brigade New York Guard -- two of our young MP's went beyond their call to duty. Their names were PFC Arnold M. Wachtel and PV2 Jeremias Diaz. On Thursday 25 Oct 2001 these citizen soldiers participated in the apprehension of a violent felon who had just committed a robbery. On 1 Nov 2001, they received recognition for their bravery by being presented with a Citation from the Assembly of the State of New York. In doing so, PFC Wachtel and PV2 Diaz continued the long tradition of heroism and service by the 88th "Irish" that began in the American Civil War. |
